According to a report out of the UK, Ferrari and legendary custom coachbuilder Zagato are collaborating on a final project, the last in a long line of beautiful bespoke sports cars dating back decades. Picking up from the 575 GTZ built in 2006 for Japanese collector Yoshiyuki Hayashi, the new model dubbed the 550 GTZ will be limited to just five examples at over £1 million each, and they’re said to have all been sold even before any official announcement of the vehicle has been made.
The 550 GTZ is actually based on the 550 Barchetta Pininfarina roadster unveiled in 2000, of which only 448 examples were made. Zagato sourced the five best examples it could find, which were shipped to Ferrari, stripped and re-built to as-new condition before getting their new Zagato bodywork and trim. The 550 Barchetta’s V12 engine puts out 485 hp and did 0 - 60 mph in 4.2 seconds with a top speed of 199 mph in its original iteration. Not bad for a 10 year old prancing horse.
