How would a Ferrari look sporting a pair of Oakley MLB sunglasses? While we’re not talking about that particular brand of Oakley per say, the effect of the blackened A-pillar, roof line, and deck, by Oakley Design, sure gives that illusion. Oakley is a tuner primarily known for their work with Porsche’s, but has recently stepped out of the box to try their hand at a Ferrari 458 Italia which will also be featured at SEMA this year. While the changes aren’t drastic, they are certainly noteworthy.
If you note the look of the OEM 458…
You’ll see how the blackened roof line has been added to simulate the cockpit of a modern jet fighter. The wheels have also been upgraded to a set of wide HRE rims. Small front and rear spoilers have also been added, but not for aesthetic purposes. With the 50 extra horsepower Oakley Design was able to coax out of the 4.5-liter, the front and rear spoilers provide a much needed 100 pounds of down force to the nose, and 55 pounds to the rear.
The engine modifications were simple, including a new intake system and computer tune, bringing the 458′s max power up from its standard 570 horsepower and 398 lb-ft of torque, to 618 horsepower and 418 lb-ft of torque. Oakley estimates the extra boost in power and traction, should bring the 458′s 0-60 time down to about 3 seconds, and its top speed nudged up to 205 mph.
There will only be five of these examples to roll out of the Oakley shop this year, but they have promised these goodies will all be available, individually, as aftermarket tuner and dress up accessories.
