Game Over – Gucci’s New Carbon Fiber Shoes for Men

Our good buddy Alex D swung by the CFG offices a couple weeks ago with a little surprise for us.  He brought a box with a Gucci logo on it, and popped up a pair of shoes with real carbon fiber on the heel.
It’s not everyday that I get to blog about fashion when it comes to carbon fiber but I guess today is my lucky day. The shoes that Alex brought are called the Gucci’s GG Plus Moccasin. Gucci plus carbon fiber? Now that’s just ridiculous.
While these shoes aren’t for everybody, we get giddy when seeing well known luxury brands incorporate carbon fiber into their products. We’ve seen this with brands like Dunhill London, Gucci, Chanel, Mont Blanc, Ralph Lauren and many others. It reaffirms that carbon fiber is the next generation of luxury material, hence our slogan “Carbon Fiber is the New Black.”
A little Gucci history for you;

“In 1921 Florence, a craftsman named Guccio Gucci opened his store to sell leather goods, and a legend was born. Over the decades, people around the world have admired and appreciated works from the House of Gucci—whether it’s women’s ready-to-wear, men’s designs, children’s clothes, accessories, handbags, shoes, or fragrances. Today, designer Frida Giannini holds the reins of this venerable Italian line.”

We immediately took his shoes and snapped a few shots so we could share them with our readers.
Made in Italy, the GG Plus Moccasin comes in beige/ebony with dark brown leather trim and a rubber sole, a pattern similar to any classic Gucci purse. The shoe also has a cutout interlocking G detail on the front of the shoe. The carbon fiber is found on the back heel of the shoe in the rubber sole. While it adds absolutely no benefit what so ever (that we know of) to the shoe, besides a conversational piece, it sure does add beauty and quality.
The GG Plus Moccasin with carbon fiber heels are being sold for $425 and can be found at various department stores like Bergdorf Goodman or Neiman Marcus.  If you’d like to see more pictures, head over to our Flickr page where we uploaded a set.

Carbon Fiber Knife Doubles as a Money Clip Which Fits In Your Wallet

Ordered MINE!
The moment we saw the Creditor carbon fiber money clip knife, we had to have one.  Pictures don’t do much justice until you’re holding one in your hands and realize how small and lightweight it is.  The actual knife itself is smaller than a credit card and is made up of a killer list of materials including real carbon fiber, D2 tool steel, stainless steel and titanium.

Normally when we think of a carbon fiber knife, something like the Spyderco Sage comes to mind…the carbon fiber aspect is all in the handle. With the Creditor the actual blade has an element of carbon fiber on it. In fact the blade is made up of a laminate of D2 tool steel and carbon fiber. The actual sharp part of the blade is the steel ensuring it being sharp and can be sharpened. The handle in this instance is lightweight titanium.

The blade folds into the handle, giving it the slim and small profile which can even fit in a wallet. Speaking of low profile, the thickness is just the size of about 3 credit cards if you don’t count the clip on the back. Fold out the knife and the size is instantly doubled.

Get it here for only $200!

For my music heads, carbon fiber violin -

I was rocking out to the Violin station on Pandora, and figured someone had to have come up with a CF instrument, well below is it!
Depending on the weather, Yo-Yo Ma may not take the stage today at President Obama’s Inauguration with the instrument that we’d all expect: His $2 million 1733 Montagnana cello.

Instead, he may use a $7,139 cello that’s only slightly less impressive.

That’s because his other option is a cello made entirely of carbon fiber from a company called Luis and Clark, since it’s designed to withstand the cold much better than a priceless wooden piece of history. The carbon fiber cello, which is just part of the carbon fiber suite of instruments that Luis and Clark makes, including a viola, violin and bass, was also in the hands of the Joint Service Orchestra’s string section during Sunday’s “We Are One” concert, the first time ever a major orchestra had exclusively used carbon fiber string instruments in concert, and will probably be seen more as musicians discover the benefits of the futuristic material.

Unlike a wooden cello, the Luis and Clark carbon fiber cello has a single-piece body, neck and peg box with no scroll at the top, and is designed to resist the effects of temperature and humidity without loosing the sound that top cello players demand.

Make an art statement with the carbon fiber Dipinta Di Blue chair

A chair, is a chair, is a chair. Yes, we get the point – it’s a chair only, why think too much and complicate it! Somehow ace designers like Adele Cassina, the daughter of the famous Cesare Cassina, seems to differ. And shows her side of the story with Dipinta Di Blue chair. The highlight of this rather interesting-looking designer chair, apart from its futuristic design, is the material. The blue chair is made of carbon fibre, which makes it the toughest chair possible. Of course the curvaceous, fluid design gives it that shock value that can put your guests in an instant awe of things around: it’s that noticeable! Priced at $8,300 a piece, it’s a limited production. A perfect addition if your home looks like the Wikileaks headquarters!

The $96,000 Carbon fiber Renard GT smoothens the menacing looks of a Confederate Wraith

We have earlier told you about custom carbon fiber bikes to seduce the carbon fiber aficionados including The Sharker, carbon-fiber monocoque motorbike developed by the Gerg Group. The latest in the wonders of carbon fiber motorcycles is the $96,000 Carbon Fiber Renard GT. This luxury bike is conceptualized in order to revive the Renard brand, an old Estonian manufacturer destroyed by bombing in WWII by a group of Estonian entrepreneurs, designers and racing engineers. This carbon fiber prototype was recently unveiled at the Hanover Technology Fair and will go into production next year. The carbon fiber monocoque chassis weighs just 11 kg and incorporates the airbox and fuel tank. The bike is powered by a four-valve Moto Guzzi v-twin engine. The bike seems to have taken its inspiration from Confederate machines but, with the smooth texture of carbon fiber. Both wheels are carbon fiber, while the Grand Tourer’s lightweight aircraft aluminum components are CNC billet. The Renard’s 1200cc engine delivers around 130 horsepower. But in the end it’s all about setting you apart from the crowd while fulfilling your passion for a one-off bike to ride in style.

A Good Bottle of Wine Deserves a Modern Carbon Fiber Display

There is that one bottle of wine in your collection that just deserves a little more attention than the rest. That’s where our new modern carbon fiber wine bottle holder comes into play. One picture should be enough to make you fall in love:
This unique design has an full carbon fiber exterior with a clearcoat finish for a glossy look. There is a hole in which the bottle neck goes into, and the bottom of the crest is flattened out so that it stays up. The result is the perception of a floating bottle, an epic display.
From what we’ve tested, the display will also work with a bottle of champagne that has been opened already.  The wine bottle holder is already available for sale in our store, you can find it here along with more information

Pocket Sized Carbon Fiber Knife - SICK!

French companies Forge de Laguiole and Ora-Ito have teamed up to design and manufacture a carbon fiber folding knife. Known as the Furtivo, this exquisite knife is just that, exquisite.
Established in 1987, Forge de Laguiole has made a name for themselves in the cutlery world as one of the very finest producers of Laguiole style knives. Each of their fine knives are individually handcrafted with quality and design in mind.

It is no surprise to us that a company like Forge de Laguiole, who is so dead-set on quality and fine standards, would decide to implement the use of carbon fiber into one of their collections. As we all know, not only is carbon fiber aesthetically pleasing, it makes almost any product more durable and weigh less. Always a plus for a pocket knife!
Ora-Ito is the name of the French designer who created the brand at just 19 years of age. Not limited to household appliances, Ora-Ito also sells bathroom accessories, cosmetics, jewelry and more. The Furtivo is not the only product Ora-Ito has released. If you refer back to an article we posted a few months ago, you can take a peek at their kitchen appliance collection.
The Furtivo includes a carbon fiber inlay on the handle and an exceptional black blade. The combined efforts are thought of as a beautiful story,
“In late 2009, a lovely story materializes between Forge de Laguiole and iconoclastic designer Ora-Ito. FORGE DE LAGUIOLE turns to the designer who has become a mostprominent artist, and sought his talents as a visionary to give a new twist to the expertise of its iconic workshops. With an acute understanding of the Forge de Laguiole codes,he designed the FURTIVO knife which is the basis of this new adventure. True icons at the forefront of technology, the creations of Ora-Ito are characterized by the purity of graphic volumes which are inspired by original form. He brings a fresh perspective to these functional objects and examines their integration into our contemporary world.”

This contemporary knife is available for 990 Euro (A little under $1,400 USD at the time of writing) and can be purchased here. Although I must warn you, the website indicates “Availability : Delivered at your shipping address at the latest for Friday 04 February 2011.” An early Valentines gift for your valentine anyone? And please note, there are a few styles available known as the basic versions but only one is carbon fiber. (hint: its all black)

The Speediest Coffee You’ll Ever Brew

Usually when someone is in search of a new coffee machine for their morning brew, they are looking with certain criteria, such as an auto-timer feature, the size of the coffee pot or even a well known brand. Even though Ferrari is a well known car brand, I think it’s safe to assume that a Ferrari espresso machine would be of the highest quality. That’s right, a Ferrari espresso maker also known as “The Racepresso”.
Take Nespresso and add Ferrari, joined together, they produce the ultimate coffee machine. Made from carbon fiber, the Racepresso is a hard core espresso maker, although it’s not your traditional looking coffee machine. Shaped like a Ferrari F1 helmet, this deluxe coffee machine was designed by Ilgar Rustamov.

Sleek Audios Carbon Fiber Earbuds

The world’s fanciest headphones have officially been introduced to us and you can bet your ass they are made of carbon fiber. Sleek Audio released the SA7’s earbuds in order to refine the older version, the SA6’s. Like the SA6’s, the SA7’s carry the same adjustable bass/treble ports and cords that can be removed. Removable cords? That’s pretty awesome.

Sleek Audio is constantly working to develop new and innovative technology to make certain the product you purchase today is not obsolete within six months. Built from solid aluminum, Sleek Audio used military grade metals to ensure durability. “With a core made from a solid block of milled aluminum. A layer of silicone surrounds the dual ultra-wide band balanced drivers, for added impact resistance. Everything is encased within carbon fiber side panels, and held together with hexagonal titanium screws.”  The buds can withstand 14,000 G’s of forced gravity but my only questions is, can a human?

Also known as a ‘wireless hybrid’, the SA7’s can be used with or without the detachable cables. Using patented Kleer wireless audio technology, the wireless mode eliminates those pesky cords. Sleeks VQ Variable Equalization system is also installed in every pair of earbuds for each individual’s personal frequency preference.

A pair of SA7’s is priced at $400, a little steep considering your average iPod is around $300 or under. But come on, when you throw carbon fiber on anything, it doesn’t just raise the WOW factor; it’s an automatic price raise, we’re used to this.
