BMW Art Cars are something of a notorious, timeless and classic tradition for BMW cars. Ever since 1975 when French racecar driver Herve Poulain requested that his BMW racecar be painted in a unique way by American artist Alexander Calder, BMW cars have become a canvas for great artists such as Frank Stella, Jenny Holzer, David Hockney, Roy Lichtenstein, Robert Rauschenberg and, amongst the most famous, Andy Warhol. BMW Art Cars have been exhibited around the world including the Louvre in Paris, the Palazzo Grassi in Venice and the Guggenheim Museums in New York and Bilbao. Most recently those in New York may have seen some BMW Art Cars on display in Grand Central Station as a part of the Joy campaign launched by BMW for the all new Z4. BMW fans across the globe have been inspired by these pieces of art in motion and this BMW fan’s take on the concept is no different. Sheldon Rodriguez of Dubai has turned his E46 330ci into a rolling piece of art. Naturally having an eye for all things aesthetically pleasing, Sheldon is a Visual Design Specialist by trade, so it is only natural that what he drives resembles his artistic abilities and lifestyle. The inspiration for this work on his heavily modified 2002 E46 330ci was freehand doodling as well as the supercar atmosphere that is omnipresent in Dubai. It left Sheldon feeling he needed to do something to make himself stand out in a sea of exotics, so he did just that. He states that the car is divided into two separate holistic themes. The left side of the car makes use of sharp angled strokes and represents the evil, darker noir side while the right side utilizes open rounded strokes to evoke good, pure and positive emotions. I give Sheldon credit for doing something so bold as he used three Sharpie markers on the car and did it completely freehand. The car took three days, at three hours a session, to complete. To protect this gorgeous piece of work, Sheldon coated the Bimmer with a thin layer of matted lacquer to maintain a subtle OEM look to the car. One thing is for sure and that is that there will never be another Bimmer, let alone another car, that will look like this E46 330ci. Congratulations to Sheldon for being so bold and doing something original, the results are amazing! Source
