The "Funny Guy" and how he stacks up 101.

Sense of humor tops almost every woman's list of qualities they're looking for in a potential boyfriend. (Interesting when you consider that most girls really aren't all that funny, but such are the mysteries of the gender.) Aside from making every girl's dream-man wish list, the power of a great sense of humor in a guy is often explored in popular movies and television shows today. Judd Apatow flicks, for instance, usually feature a not-so-attractive male paired with an absolutely stunning woman and it almost never seems strange because the not-so-attractive male in question is hilarious. However, how much can your bottomless well of funnies really make up for, you ask? We’re here to ref the funny factor showdowns.
Funny vs. Looks
There is not a man or woman alive not guilty of cracking their neck trying to scope out some hot eye candy. It's a biological instinct -- no need to beat yourself up over it. However, the beauty of evolution (besides our awesome opposable thumbs) is that we are able to choose our mates based on more than just physical desires. This is where that "but he/she has such a great personality" statement rolls in. Good news guys: Women actually mean it when they say it! A great personality can more than make up for a less-than-model-like appearance, and a sense of humor is the cornerstone of a great personality to an overwhelming majority of women.

Winner: Funny. Hanging out with the local boring Adonis might be fun for the night, but it's the average-looking jokester who can hook the ladies for much longer.
Funny vs. Ambition

Although having a great sense of humor can provide a major distraction from some other less-than-stellar characteristics, it can only do so much. You could rival George Carlin (we know he's dead, but you get our point) for laughs, but if you have no desire to do anything else in life but spend your days lying on the couch with Captain Crunch and Bob Barker, there’s nothing that will stop a girl from running far, far away from your black hole of apathy, sugary cereals and morning game show addiction.

Winner: Ambition. The ability to crack jokes doesn’t erase the need for your girl to imagine a life with you -- and a life without work and goals is not going to be a life she wants any part of.
Funny vs. Wealth
Let’s keep it real here: There will always be women who sniff out the dollar signs in any romantic relationship they pursue. However, there are still masses of independent women out there who couldn't care less about the size of your wallet or the limits on your credit cards. The ability to make a woman laugh, for richer or poorer, in good times and in bad (and even when she feels like beating the crap out of you) is a gift that’s worth way more than anything a rich suitor might try to buy her happiness with. Unless you’re Bruce Wayne -- you can’t beat rich, charming and being a superhero. There’s a reason he gets all the hotties.

Winner: Funny. Four guys from England once told the world that money couldn’t buy them love, but a steady stream of hysterical jokes would have definitely helped pay the tolls.
Funny vs. Intelligence

Men and women don’t always agree on the type of humor that splits their sides. For most people though, intelligence is very much intertwined with comedy, especially for women who might appreciate Ricky Gervais over Abbot and Costello. There’s no need to break out the brain surgery and rocket science textbooks, but truly making her chuckle often takes more than a lame fart joke.

Winner: Tie. Intelligence wins her respect and humor wins her heart -- can't have one without the other.
FUNNY FORTUNES IN LOVE

Victor Borge (points if you've actually heard of him) once said: "Laughter is the shortest distance between two people." If your friends claim that you're the funniest person they know, you're already well on your way to becoming quite the ladies' man. Women were, are and always will be attracted to a charismatic man with a sense of humor. If you've got it, flaunt it! It can overcome many other seemingly less desirable qualities you think you might have. Also, it's a great technique for weeding out the kind of girl you want because, really, who wants a chick who can't appreciate a good "that's what she said" joke? (Note: We never touched on funny vs. maturity -- go for it.)
